State Update

Our boys headed up to Clovis, CA on Thursday with every intention of running as fast as they can and representing Trabuco Hills High School as best they could.  Our party bus included Coach Ayers (Driver), Coach Clemons (sitting shotgun), and the boys; Chad Rozean, Jantzen Oshier, Kevin Feazel, Mickey Miela and new alternate Justin Bogler.

In light of keeping it short, memories were definitely made while we enjoyed every second of our trip.  Our boys ran Friday night and ran well.  Unfortunately, being in the first heat and in a slow one at that, we did not advance by 5 one-hundredths to the finals on Saturday.   I am very proud of this team and this season.  The leadership that Mickey and Kevin both exhibited as seniors will leave a lasting impression on Chad, Jantzen, and Justin for the next years of running.  See below for the entire race as well as some pictures.  Thank you all and see you next year or in the off-season.

STATE BABY

Trabuco Hills Boys 4 x 400 team is going to State!  Trabuco's first 4 x 400 team to ever run at the state level.

At a very cold and windy night in Cerritos nobody was running their best times.  Chad Rozean had an incredible run in his open 400.  His hamstring was hurting him, however with the proper cool down, warm-up, and attitude he showed his true character by leading his 4 x 400 team later that night to the state Prelims.  By no means was this Mickey Miela, Kevin Feazal, Jantzen Oshier, and Chad Rozean's best race.  We are saving that for Friday in Clovis.  Our goals is to run in the state Finals on Saturday.

Trabuco has 10 athletes competing at the state level next week. Congrats to Monica Todd, Lori Hoffman, and the girls 4 x 100 team.  This truly has been a blessed year and the best is still to come.

Here is the video of the race.  Also bear in mind that the top four teams in this race are without a doubt the best 4 teams in the state.

DyeState TV

Our boys running at CIF Finals.  An incredible race that has put us 6th in the state and 32nd in the nation.  We all plan on going faster on Friday night at the Masters meet in Cerritos. Be sure to watch the end and see our boys huddled together in celebration.  The camera man caught it and now Trabuco Hills was on TV showing their true CHARACTER.  What is not on screen is Coach Clemons and I jumping onto the field to celebrate with them.  3 more chances (races) to further this incredible season.

CIF Division 1 Finals

Division 1 CIF Finals was at Cerritos College yesterday and it was probably the best meet in the nation in regards to competition.  Especially since Texas has cancelled all track meets due to the Swine Flu.  Every school brought their best and every athlete tried their hardest.   It was a fantastic meet to say the least.

I could not be any more proud of how our athletes responded to this high level of competition. Chad Rozean made it in the 400, ranked 9th overall and is still running good enough times to get into state.  Tough year to be a 400 runner.  Chad still looks to improve his time at Masters this Friday and could move to the state meet in Fresno. Chad is currently the fastest 400 runner in school history.

Mickey Miela ran great in the 110 hurdles and after only a year and 3 meets under his belt in this race his improvement has been astounding.  Mickey is currently the second best runner in the 110 hurdles in school history.  He is the third best in the 300 hurdles.

Our 4x400 team raced their hearts out last Saturday and made it to CIF Finals by five one-thousandths of a second.  We looked to improve even more and make it to Masters and even State by breaking 3:20.00.  I believed this to be possible, however would have been a giant milestone to pass.  We ran 3:17.30!!!!!  It honestly was one of the single most incredible events and performance I have ever seen.  I was elated!  From lane 9 Kevin Feazel ran 50.7, Mickey Miela ran 49.9, Janzten Oshier ran 49.4 and Chad Rozean ran a 47.3 to seal the deal. This group of boys are the second fastest in school history and look to run even faster, from a better lane, on Friday at the Masters meet.

All in all, a great day to be a Trabuco Hills fan, runner, supporter.  We all should be very proud of our boys.

CIF Division 1 Prelims

CIF Division 1 Prelims were at Trabuco Hills High School on Saturday.  The level of competition this year was astonishing to say the least.  Coach Robinson was telling Coach Kelly and I that the "athletes running at this meet are good enough to run at any national level track meet in the country."  In other words, our boys were running against the best in the nation.

Chad Rozean ran a decent race in the 400 with a low 48 race.  His best race this year can possibly put Chad in number 3 spot at Division 1 Finals Saturday.  I am excited to watch him run because Chad is an athlete that rises to the level of competition he needs to compete at. And it is so exciting to watch him compete.

Another athlete that rises to a high level of competition when needed is Mickey Miela. Mickey had a tremendous day on Saturday.  He is ranked 6th in the 110 hurdles going into finals with a very impressive mid 14 sec race.  He also P.R.ed with a 39.2 in the 300 hurdles.  He is currently ranked 10th, which makes him the first alternate.

Kevin Feazal, Jake Jonshon, Jon Dempster, Jack Grose and Jantzen Oshier also competed on Saturday however did not advance to the next level in any individual races or events.  However, Kevin is running very impressive 400's and Jack and Jantzen were the two most impressive Sophomores at Saturday's meet.  Jack even ran in the same race as Reggie Wyatt who will be claiming a Gold for the U.S. in the next Olympics or very soon.

The most exciting race on Saturday was the last race, 4x400.  Running very impressive splits Kevin Feazal, Mickey Miela, Jack Grose, and Chad Rozean dug down deep and gave everything they had to run a 2 second P.R. running a 3:21.833.  The reason I just recorded the time in thousands is that Dana Hills ran a 3:21.838.  We took the last and final spot for CIF Division finals by 5 one-thousands.  It literally came down to the photo finish.  This honestly could not have been better scripted.  We are currently the best team in Orange County.  I was still so excited for our guys that I did not sleep last night.  Well, a lot of that had to do with a squirmy newborn, but you get the point.

I am so proud of how far our athletes have come this year.  This year has been so full of amazing memories and because of the tenacity of our boys they will run another week.  We are going back to work on Monday and our next goal is to run a 3:19 in Finals.  Good luck and God bless to Mickey and Chad in their individual events for Saturday, as well as to the team of the 4x400.

More updates to come...

Photos

I encourage you to visit our Track team's photo website. It contains 1000's of photos taken throughout this season.

http://thhs.smugmug.com/Track%20and%20Field

Unlike the other school teams (football, baseball, etc), Mr Robitaille allows 100% of our photo sale profits to go to the track team because he shoots his own photos and does all the processing, editing and uploading himself. None of the sale proceeds go to the photographers.

This is a pure fund raiser for THHS Track & Field.

The pictures are simply amazing and are worth buying.
These are more than just casual snap shots. These images catch our athletes during the peak of action and many have been processed using special effects which parents and athletes enjoy. There are also galleries on this site for the other field events such as shot put, long jump, high jump and pole vaulting.
Hope you enjoy them!
Thank you to Vivian Frerichs for the email informing of the site.

League Champs

Congratulations to our Boys for successfully completing a undefeated Dual Meet League Championship. Other than El Toro most meets were not even close. However, what is more impressive is how our boys handled themselves when they were not running. We truly were successful in being better men with C.H.I.

The team we ran against yesterday did not have Character, Honor, or Integrity. When our opponent said physically threatening things, swore, threw Frisbees, ran our athlete off (literally) the track, and did not cheer their teammates on, we rose above their level and ran with class. The entire coaching staff is proud of our guys for doing their talking on the track.

Most of our varsity scoring athletes yesterday were sophomores. We also had one freshman, Matt Krikland, fill in and score points in the Triple Jump, High Jump and ran an impressive first leg in the 4 x 400. I was proud of our senior leadership with Mickely Miela, Matt Mosier (who ran 2 400's which are not his races) Darion White, Steven Tan, and Jon Dempster. Our seniors are leaving a lasting impression on how to run well and how to become better men in the process.

It is an honor to coach this team.

O.C. Championships

This past Saturday was a very good day for all involved in Trabuco Track. Our boys continued to improve as athletes with Chad Rozean running the 3rd fastest time in O.C. Championship history with his 47.89 400. Before the race Chad informed me that he wanted to run 48.3 and I told him that it would he more likely to run a high 48 and to be a little more realistic. Credit to Chad for working so hard this past 3 weeks and believing in his coach in running 800's. Chad skipped the 48 second mark and ran in the 47's. Incredible. Chad is currently the 5th fastest runner in the state!

In other news, Mickey Meila is offically the 2nd fastest runner in the 110 hurdles, as well as 4th in the 300's. Jon Dempster had an impressive showing in his triple jump with a 44 footer. Adam Gann came in 10th in the 100 and the 4 x 100 frosh/soph team placed third by a hundrendth of a second. The new anchor for that team was Richard Gelok II who was also third in the 200.

Janzten Oshier broke the county frosh/soph record in the 1600 with an incrdible 4:20.00. He also won the 800 with a 1:57. He was also part of the 4 x 400 team that came with 2 seconds of the county record however our first runner stepped out of his lane on the back 200 and we were disqualified. Not sure if I agree with the call.

All in all, a very impressive day. Boys Varisty came in 5th! Frosh/Soph came in 4th.

There is so much good that came out of that Satursday. These boys are not done improving and will show us all against Northwood and then into League Finals next week.

Integrity

Integrity is the cornerstone of good character.  It is the last part of our C.H.I. and is a culmination of the three.  Integrity is the quality of being honest, having consistently high moral standards, and the action to match those principals.  Essentially it is when our actions and our words come in line with one another.  As members of TH Boys Track and Field we will strive to be the best we can be as men as well as the best athlete we can be.

We face a pretty good team this week.  Woodbridge.  They will not lay down and let us run over them.  We must rise to the challenge and continue to strive to be the best we can be on and off the track.   Work hard to get the most out of your workouts and continue to make yourself better in the process.

"Sports does not build character, it reveals it," John Wooden.
